A really good start

Hello from the Nursery

As we move towards the end of our first half term together at Boothville Nursery, we would like to let you know some of the lovely things we have done with the children so far and some of the things we have planned for next term.

We have been focussing on getting to know the children this term, ensuring that they are settled and happy with us and helping them to become familiar with the nursery routines.

We have now started Forest School and the children love exploring the outdoors and playing in the mud kitchen, investigating the woods and messing about in the mud or water.

The children have been introduced to basic Phonic sounds. So far we have learned ‘m’ ‘s’ ‘t’ ‘d’ ‘s’ and this week we are learning ‘i’. We introduce the sounds at the beginning of the week and the children think of all the things that begin with that sound.

We have been encouraging the children to explore the nursery as much as possible and to participate in a wide range of activities from role play to drawing or painting. We have also been investigating the natural things that we find in Autumn and using them in a range of ways to be creative and learn all about them through talk and discovery.

As we move into the next half term, here are a few things to remind you about nursery:-

  • Please ensure that all of the children’s clothes are labelled, including coats, hats and gloves as the weather becomes colder.
  • Children need a warm coat as we aim to play outside each day, even when it is wet or chilly, so we like them to be warm enough.
  • Although we like to heat our nursery, we do try to keep it well ventilated, so a jumper or cardigan will always be a good thing for them to have.
  • Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the session, so a named water bottle will be very useful, water only please, not juice or squash as this is in keeping with the school policy. Children who bring a packed lunch may bring juice as part of their meal. Please don’t worry if you forget their water bottle as we always have milk and water available as part of our snack.
  • Our lunchtime provision – Teddies, needs to be paid for via the school app by midnight the night before your child is due to stay. The cost remains at £4 for the session and an additional £2.57 is payable in the same way if you require a hot dinner.
  • If you require any additional nursery sessions for your child for any reason, please speak to Mrs Colwell to ensure there is enough space and a permanent change needs to be agreed and confirmed by completing a new application form. Additional sessions above their free entitlement are charged at £15 per session.
  • Children who are being collected at the end of the morning session may be collected from 11.20 and must be picked up by 11.30. At the end of the afternoon session, you may collect your child from 3.20 and they must be collected by 3.30. If your child is coming in for lunch prior to the afternoon session, please drop them off at 11.20 so that they can get ready for lunch with their friends.

So what’s next in nursery?

During our second half term we will be continuing to develop the children’s mark making skills, learning new shapes and extending their knowledge of numbers and counting. We will also be starting to look forward to Christmas, hopefully with a festive get together with the children and also a Christmas party.

In the meantime, have a good half term holiday and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 4th November
