Throughout this term Year 3 will be reading a range of books during our class Reading sessions and our daily Reading Time. In our Reading sessions we will focus on history books about the Ancient Egyptians. We will look at two non-fiction texts; The Genius of The Ancient Egyptians by Sonya Newland and History Essentials: Life in Ancient Egypt by Angela McDonald. We will focus on the features of non-fiction texts and investigate new vocabulary while using retrieval skills and inference skills to explain our findings from the texts.
We will also read the fiction text, Cinderella of the Nile by Beverley Naidoo. This book is the earliest-known version of Cinderella and we will use our investigative skills to explain how the author uses different words and phrases to make the reader feel specific things about the characters throughout the text.
Finally, we will use the book, The Stone Boy by Satoshi Kitamura, as inspiration for our writing unit this term.
