Welcome to 4B! Another September has arrived and our class has been renamed. The classes in Year 4 are all named after inspirational artists, and we are named after Sonia Boyce (4B).
Sonia Boyce is a British Afro-Caribbean artist and educator. She studied art at school after her skills were recognised by her teacher and now teaches as a professor at University of the Arts London. Her artwork uses a range of media, including drawing, print, photography and sound and is influenced by culture, race and gender of people living in Britain. For her efforts, skill and passion, Boyce was awarded a Damehood in 2024.
Over the first few days of our new term, 4B studied the life and artwork of Sonia Boyce. We spent time learning about her life and why she is recognised as an influential artist, as well as recreating some of our own pieces in the style of her artwork. As Boyce does, we used a range of media (photography, drawing and colour) to create our artwork, before displaying in our classroom.
