Last Friday saw us compete in the EFL Kids Cup competition organised by Northampton Town FC. This is the first step in qualifying to play at Wembley Stadium, before the League playoffs in May. Our boys played some excellent football, demonstrating great individual skills and some good team play. We played 10 league matches, winning 7, drawing 2 and loosing 1 and finished runners up qualifying for the semi-finals. In a very physical semi-final against Bringhurst, Darius scored an excellent long range shot to settle the game, although there were chances in the closing minutes for both teams. In the Final we played Wootten Village, who we had previously lost to in the group matches. This time we were more determined and both teams played really well, creating chances either end of the pitch. After normal time and extra time the game remained 0-0. It was then penalties, best of 3. After 2 penalties each, it was still all level, becoming sudden death. Franek saved their penalty and the pressure was on Alex, who calmly stepped up to score the winner, sending us through to the regional finals. Well done to all the players who took part. Our players were from Year 6, Franek, Harry F, Darius, David (captain), Alex, Kai and from Year 5, Xavier, Theo and Gabriel.
