Brilliant BFG experience!

To start our English Topic this term we had a BFG inspired experience morning. All of the children came to school in their pyjamas along with their cuddly teddy's and acted out being Sophie who was taken by the BFG in the middle of the night.

The children got to try different foods imaging they were the BFG. They tried snozzcumbers (gherkins), mini doughnuts and Frobscottle juice (green lemonade) which resulted in lots of whizzpopping, because the bubbles go down!

We had a fabulous time making BFG inspired bookmarks and getting creative with the help of Quentin Blake who helped us draw our own BFG images.

We have read the first 4 chapters of the BFG book by Roald Dahl and are looking forward to revealing the rest of the story as the term progresses.

reading books Term 3

Welcome to My Crazy Life written by Joshua Seiga

This book is a winner of the Laugh ‘Out Loud Award’ and we hope to be entertained when we read a range of poems from this book.

Pippi Longstocking written by Astrid Lindgren

We will read extracts about Pippi Longstocking’s character and use our inference skills to explore the feelings of the main characters as they get involved in some unusual and crazy adventures.

Harry the Poisonous Centipede written by Lynne Reid Banks

This Fiction text tells the story of a centipede who tries to be brave and has adventures in the big, scary world. We will consider how the author creates suspense within the text and how the author uses narrative devices to have an effect on the reader.

Stig of the Dump written by Clive King

This book is about a boy who befriends a caveman who lives in a dump. We will retrieve key language from the text that describes emotions and actions and apply this when creating and performing a play script about the events in the book.

The BFG written by Roald Dahl

We will use the fabulous fiction text as our inspiration for our writing this term and discover the adventures Sophie and the BFG have together as they explore the world of dreams and giants.
